Instructions for Completing the Fall Round of the 2014-2015 ESLP Projects

Below are instructions for completing your Fall ESLP project.

Before you carry out the final steps described below, you will first need to have signed up for and finished the physical work portion of your ESLP project. If you have already done this, proceed to the steps below. If not, visit the sign-up page and then see or contact Mr. Bursch as soon as possible to officially sign up for the project you are most interested in.

In a Google Doc, compose a short write-up (a couple of paragraphs) in which you discuss the following:

  • What (in your own words) is the Ecology Service Learning Project (ESLP) about?
  • Which project (specify the nickname and give a brief decription) of this year's Fall ESLP did you participate in and why did you choose this project over other options?
  • What did you experience / learn / discover / remember / realize before, during, and / or after your participation in this particular project?
  • How do you think the effort you made during this project could affect other humans as well as non-human organisms?
  • Are there any other comments you would like to include about this experience?

Place your completed write-up in a subfolder titled “ESLP” within your biology turn-in folder on Google Drive. The filename of your Google Doc should be "Fall 2014 ESLP Summary." Please also include up to 6 photos in your ESLP subfolder showing the beginning, middle, and end of your project (or part of the project).

Thanks,

Mr. Bursch

2014-2015 Ecology Service Learning Project Kickoff

Monday, September 8, is the official first day of work on the first round of our set of class service projects known as the Ecology Service Learning Project or ESLP. This website will be the online home of the project, just as The Story of the Seed project has its own home website. This website will host collections of resources and records for all fall 2014 and spring 2015 ESLP projects in Mr. Bursch's Biology 1-2 and Honors Biology 1-2 classes. Any questions regarding individual ESLP projects should be addressed to the team lead of that project. This blog will be updated several times per week until all individual projects are completed and will remain available as an archive thereafter.

Visual Summary of Final Products from 2014 ESLPs

The 2014 Ecology Service Learning Project has come to a close, and Mr. Bursch's students have again shown just what can happen when inspired, determined, and creative students set their minds to solving complex real problems.

In just a few months, teams from all of Mr. Bursch's three Biology 1-2 classes have continued the transformation of the Willow Glen High School campus into a living laboratory. Take a look below to see some of the fruits of our inspired labor. To see even more of this year's projects, visit the 2014 ESLP Project List page.

When finished, we should be able to compost most of the vegetable matter from the school's food wastes stream.
